Cobourg, ON – September 19, 2018 –  October was proclaimed Hispanic Heritage Month in Northumberland County at today’s meeting of County Council. Council encouraged the community to learn more about Hispanic culture by partaking in cultural community events during the upcoming month of celebration and recognition.

“Northumberland County is a community that thrives on diversity and
inclusion,” expressed Warden Mark Lovshin. “As Hispanic Heritage Month approaches, we recognize the contributions of our Hispanic community—and indeed our newcomer community as a whole—to sustaining and growing a strong and vibrant Northumberland.”

Ontario is home to over 400,000 first, second and third generation Hispanic Canadians, and the Hispanic community is one of the fastest growing in
the province.

In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, the Northumberland Hispanic Cultural Club will be organizing various community events during the month of October. The events include a gala, film festival, concert, gourmet food festival, and an art and heritage exhibition.
