Selected from a pool of over 30 applicants, these 12 are this year’s successful candidates for the Business & Entrepreneurship Centre’s ‘Summer Company’ Program.

“These youth have evaluated the market, discovered a niche for their offerings, and pursued an opportunity, and this program is all about helping them to take this leap and achieve success,” stated Business & Entrepreneurship Centre Manager Rob Day. “Businesses this year range from brand clothing consignment, to a handmade clothing line, a hobbyist product line, a cleaning service, escape room Entertainment, health
products, art and more. We encourage people to support the innovative, up-and-coming entrepreneurs of this community by stopping by the Cobourg Staples location next week to peruse some of their incredible offerings.”

Summer Company is a program funded by the Government of Ontario, providing an opportunity for students between the ages of 15-29 years to start and run their own summer business. The program, delivered in Northumberland County by the Business & Entrepreneurship Centre, provides training and mentoring, and up to $3,000 in awards.

"Small businesses make up over 99% of all employer-businesses in Canada,” indicated County Warden Mark Walas. “Particularly in more rural communities like Northumberland, small business sustainability and growth is at the forefront of locally-driven economic development efforts.

Supporting these young entrepreneurs with connections to knowledge, expertise and resources to help their businesses take root is vital to ensuring a thriving and vibrant Northumberland over the long-term. We invite everyone to come out to this event and learn more about how these new local businesses can meet your needs. ”

For the second year in a row, participating Staples stores across Ontario are supporting the Summer Company Program by showcasing entrepreneurs and their businesses.
